"OVERALL I visited YBC for a lunch meal on September 23, 2011. As I entered the establishment, I was greeted warmly and seated in the section of my choice immediately. Within one minute, my server approached my table and informed me of the variety of offerings available. Wanting to sample and comment on traditional fare, I ordered the Caesar Salad with a Chicken Breast. The food arrived within ten minutes and was presented well. Along with the entree was a "parmesan crisp", an in-house offering of baked parmesan cheese - thin, and about the size of a salad plate. The flavour of the salad was pleasant, and the chicken was done to perfection. For dessert, I ordered a special on the menu, the Strawberry Shortcake, which was delivered on a chilled plate. The highlight of this common dessert was the not-so-common 'Balsamic macerated strawberries'. Although the thought of serving strawberries with vinaigrette may tend to cause some to shy away, I highly recommend this dessert. Also, at time of review, a portion of the cost was being sent to aid Canadian Breast Cancer research. SERVICE The server was very friendly, accommodating, and visited my table on a number of occasions to ensure my meal was satisfactory. I also had the pleasure of discussing a number of aspects of the restaurant with the manager who was friendly and informative. He informed me that the restaurant has its own brewery, and a wide variety of house brands are available for purchase with the meal, or apres-meal for home consumption. LAYOUT Upon entering, you have a choice between the lounge or restaurant, and there is also a covered patio facing a lazy street. The doors to the patio were kept open for ease of service, and some small birds took the opportunity to hop in and survey for crumbs before hopping back out again. Personally, I thought this was a fantastic touch. RECOMMENDATION I would not hesitate to recommend YBC to anyone looking for a nice meal at a fair price. The servers were all friendly, and the ambient light from the large windows created a warm atmosphere. There are numerous televisions, mostly tuned to sports channels, although the sound was muted. There was contemporary music playing, but at an enjoyable level." |
