While walking with
the hoards of people along Robson
Street in downtown Vancouver I came across
numerous choices for dining but wanted a place that catered
to my food sensitivities. As I am a
meat and potato eater I came across The Keg Steakhouse
and Bar just off Robson on Thurlow Street. When entering
the Keg, you first take notice of the friendly host, the
dark wood interior with comfy chairs, and plenty of
televisions in the bar area. To the back of the bar area
there are quieter sections for more intimate dining and for
diners who find that escaping the hustle and bustle of
Robson is a nice treat.
As the Keg is famous for
their steaks, my friend and I decided to order something
different from the menu. I choose the beef dip
(pictured below) with a plain baked potato instead
of French fries ($10.95) and my friend choose
the meatloaf with Caesar salad (pictured below),
also $10.95. Both meals were flavorful and were generous
portions, although the meatloaf did come with mushrooms that
could not be removed. While observing the table in front of us
I noticed diners enjoy other great menu items such as
the baked garlic shrimp ($7.95) and
the grilled salmon Caesar ($12.95).
When I announced to our
pleasant server that I had special dietary needs
she suggested that we meet the kitchen
operations manager, Greg "Mac" Kardera. We
were very impressed when he sat down and guided us
through the Keg's food allergy and sensitivity
booklet. This informative booklet provided plenty of
information for people with special dietary needs
who need to know what ingredients were in the menu. Greg was
very knowledgeable and explained that he receives numerous
food sensitivity requests throughout the day.
Overall if you are looking
for your special needs to be met, along with good food and
friendly staff, the Keg on Thurlow is a great eating
destination.
