Lou's Grill and Bistro - a popular bar for the young locals in the Dunbar
area - stands out from the other copious options available on the West Broadway
strip. Inside the darkly lit red room sit about a dozen tables, two TV's, an
upper bar section, and an open kitchen grill. Open daily for lunch and dinner;
Lou's is busiest weekend nights and all day Sunday, when the "young ones"
come out to unwind well into the night. Some more relaxing times to stop by for
solids and liquids are weekday lunch periods and weekday evenings.
The yummiest items on the menu are the screaming hot wings, cheesy nachos,
decadent burgers, and well-constructed sandwiches. Salads, appetizers, chicken
stir-fry, and soups are also safe bets, as well as more health conscious options
for those avoiding foods high in cholesterol and fat. The delicious red-hot hot
wings are super large pieces of chicken that are first breaded, then deep-fried,
and finally doused in a saucy, hot sauce. The pita in the hummus and pita dish
is served warm, the whole-wheat pita lightly toasted into quarters, then dashed
with garlic butter. A generous bowl of smooth, creamy hummus came studded with
firm, black olives. The numbers of burger options are too copious to name, but
it is worthy to mention that all the beef burgers are made with fresh ground
beef, chopped parsley, finely diced onions, Worchester sauce, and chicken stock.
The BLT came with 6 slices of sizzling bacon, rich guacamole sauce, melted Swiss
cheese and the option of fries or salad. The cheesy nachos are made with organic
chips, homemade corn salsa, banana peppers, freshly diced tomatoes, and green
onions. The servers, though busy on any given night, are extremely helpful and
willing to substitute side dishes when asked.
