It was 11:00pm and my friend and I had just finished a night of riding our motorcycles down at Jericho Beach While riding along Broadway, we spotted this 24 Hour Asian restaurant, so we stopped in for a quick meal.
This small Vietnamese restaurant was rather plain on the inside and the menu had all of the typical Vietnamese dishes: pho, vermicelli bowls, rice plates, etc. I decided to order a large bowl of pho that contained steak, tripe, flank and tendon and their special Vietnamese sub. My friend ordered the large pho with steak and a grilled chicken sub. The prices of the pho and subs are as follows: pho comes in 3 sizes, S, L, and Xtra large, $5.99, $6.99 and $7.99 respectively and Subs cost about $3.50.
The pho arrived quite quickly in a rather medium sized bowl. I was not impressed, as although I received a decent amount of noodles there was very little meat. The tripe and tendon were average, and the flank was conspicuous by its absence. The noodles seemed to be undercooked and the small amount of broth didn’t have very much flavour. I’ve definitely had better.
The meal improved once the sub sandwich arrived. The bread tasted surprisingly fresh and was nicely toasted. The large sub had quite a bit of Vietnamese ham, pork, cilantro and shredded carrot provided for good flavour. My friend declared that his grilled chicken sub was also delicious.
The service was decent as the waitress refilled our water glasses without our requesting it.
Overall after tax and tip the price was $25. Would I go back there? Probably not for the pho, but if I was in the area and wanted a tasty sub, I would consider it. Reviewed by: Keith Lee
