It's 5:00 at the end of a work day and you return home to a family waiting for dinner - and an empty fridge. What do you do? Call Sliced Tomatoes.
Sliced Tomatoes is a great solution to putting a healthy balanced meal on the table when pressed for time. The website is simple and easy to use. It promises that it will shop and chop for you. The fresh local ingredients are prepared, washed, chopped and prepped, for each meal; all you have to do it cook it. The menu planner shows at least 4-5 different options for main courses with 2-3 options for vegetables and starches. You can order dessert too
For a Tuesday night, when I knew I would not be able to get home on time to prepare dinner, I ordered 4 orders of the Argentinean Rolled Cowboy Steak with asparagus, roasted potatoes, peppers, pearl onions and chocolate mini cakes for dessert. The total cost was $55.46 with a $10 discount for being a first time buyer. An email confirmation was received right away.
On Tuesday, a little blue cooler was left at my doorstep; inside was the steak, asparagus, potatoes and chocolate mini cakes as well as detailed instructions for cooking. All were packaged in sealed plastic pouches except the chocolate cakes, which were packed in aluminum. For the steak, I just had to cut open the plastic, place in a hot pan to brown, then into the oven for 40 minutes. I cut open the plastic pouch of potatoes and put them into a casserole dish and then into the oven for 40 minutes; the asparagus only took 10 minutes. The food was all pre seasoned so there was no fussing around with salt, pepper, etc. However you may be able to have certiain dishes plain just ask.
What sealed the deal was the taste, it was fabulous. The steak was full of flavor and stuffed with vegetables; it came with a chimichurra sauce which added extra zing to the meal. The potatoes and asparagus were also very appetizing; the chocolate cakes were yummy. The portions were generous as the food did last us 2 days and more.
The verdict? For the cost of $13.87 per person, I was able to feed my family a healthy, balanced meal which was easy to prepare and delicious. Furthermore it was easy to order and the only thing I had to do was cook it in less than an hour. Sliced Tomatoes is a wonderful alternative to take out food; I am a committed customer.
