I
was walking along Hastings Street with a friend, looking for some good Italian
food, which, being Sunday noon, was quite impossible to find. To our great
surprise, we stumbled upon a gem of a Japanese restaurant that has just opened
in the Burnaby Heights area (Toyotomi Japanese Restaurant). The place was
packed, and we got the last table in the bright, wood-paneled front room (there
is a back room to the restaurant with more tables, that would accommodate large
parties or private meetings). Service was fast and extremely attentive.
It shows that they are really trying to make a good first impression - the
presentation and preparation of the dishes were well attended to. I'd like to
try their dinner menu as well, but Toyotomi is a great place to stop for a
satisfying lunch. Their Bento Box "D" (shown above) is priced
affordably at $8.95. They also have daily specials on more exotic kinds of
sushi.

Spicy Tuna Roll
$3.20
I always like ordering side dishes to try
flavours that are not part of the bento box deals. I had never tried
spicy tuna roll before, and must say that it is a really delectable
combination to have tuna with hot sauce, rolled in seaweed and rice,
topped with sesame.

Katsu Don (pork and
egg on rice)
$7.50
This was a very colorfully presented dish that mixes together some
really great ingredients such as breaded pork chops, egg, various kinds
of onion, and rice. |
