There is no such thing as coach; everyone should feel like they have been upgraded to first class. Joey Tomatos Mission Statement.
Sitting in Joey Tomatos Mediterranean
Grill, one would start to think that the cost of their meal will break the bank given the fancy dcor and chic ambiance. However, as their mission statement suggests,
this chain of restaurants strives to provide an upscale dining experience at a not-so-upscale dining price.
The moment you enter the restaurant, you are greeted with a smile by one of their beautiful hostesses
or handsome hosts who graciously seat you once a table is available. Drinks, meals, and dessert are all served in a timely manner and the servers are always available for help. From the many times I have eaten there, I have never had any problems with their service and their staff has always been friendly.
As for the food, it is in keeping with their high standards. Normally, I find chain restaurant food
to be very similar in quality, but Joey Tomatos food is definitely better
than most chain restaurants, and their prices are roughly the same.
For an appetizer, I love their crab and artichoke dip. It is the only restaurant I know that uses freshly fried pasta chips instead of regular tortilla chips. For a main course,
one of their specialties is their rotisserie chicken. You can see the chickens roasting in the kitchen and they taste as good as they look. Also, their freshly baked thin crust pizzas and pasta dishes taste great. For dessert, try one of their freshly baked apple pies, ice cream cakes, or dessert coffees.
The atmosphere is very "upscale trendy casual" with a touch of class. There is a bar area complete with big screen
TV's which is a great place to hang out with friends and have a few drinks. The dining area has versatility and is ideal for a first date, a casual
get-together, or even a night out with the family. Since the restaurant is just down the hill from Simon Fraser University, it is also very popular among university students.
Readers of Where Calgary Magazine voted Joey Tomatos Mediterranean Grill as the Best Casual Dining Restaurant. This BC branch certainly lives up to that reputation and it is definitely a place to try if you are looking for a restaurant that brings
near-luxury dining down to earth.
