Hainanese Chicken Rice is a traditional Singapore
dish, where the secret is in the preparation. Chicken is boiled until tender and then
removed and seasoned. The broth that was created from boiling the chicken is
next used to cook the rice, which is how chicken rice gets its name and wonderful taste. The actual dish,
composed of the cooked chicken and rice, is usually served with green onion, ginger, and
sweet and sour chili dipping sauces.
The Famous Hainanese Chicken Rice is the specialty of Prata-Man in Richmond and something I highly recommend if you try this restaurant. They offer a choice of either a whole chicken, half chicken, or single order priced $19.50, $13.50, and $5.50 respectively. As a rule of thumb, the whole chicken should be good for five people, the half chicken good for three people, and the single order good for one. Soup comes with the meal if you eat in,
or if you decide to take out you will get a small discount instead. The other menu item I highly recommend is the BBQ Satay which comes in
pork, beef, or chicken. It comes with a delicious peanut dipping sauce and is delectable as an appetizer or as a main course.
The place is small so itís easily hidden and a little difficult to find. However, once youíve found this small taste of Singapore, rice will probably never taste the same again.
