Some of my friends have taken me to their favorite restaurants only after I promised that I would not write a review and share their secret with the world. Fortunately I've made no such promise for the
Green Hut, a Chinese restaurant located near Rupert and Broadway that is open late, serves up huge portions, and is immensely popular among the young and hip members of the local
Asian community.
You'll frequently see cars such as modified Civics and high-end Acura's parked in the parking lot, and for a second you'll think you're in Richmond.
And you might find it a bit daunting to find that some of the servers don't
speak much English.
But regardless of your ethnic background, if your late-night activity usually involves getting plastered in some hip dive, consider a change for once and bring a bunch of your friends out to the Green Hut, and enjoy chowing down on huge Chinese feast at two in the morning!
The menu is large and varied, with standards such as sweet-and-sour pork, hot and sour soup, and scallops with Chinese broccoli, but you can also be adventurous and try something like the pan-fried
pomphet, which is a crispy fried fish that you can eat bones and all (pictured below). A nice appetizer to try is the
jellyfish, which is served cold.
The Green Hut has some of the fastest chefs I
have ever seen: our food literally came out in 5 minutes! They're
usually open until four or five in the morning, but do consider visiting them
for dinner or lunch too.
