Usually fast food brings to mind images of greasy hamburgers and French fries. But can Thai food be fast food? It's an innovative concept which
Thai Away Home has proven works very well. Located in the heart of Commercial Drive, Thai Away Home has been voted "best fast food in the city" and was runner-up for best Thai in some recent Vancouver magazine surveys.
The idea: line up at the cashier to place your order, grab a drink, and sit down and one of the wooden tables while the kitchen quickly prepares your order. Choose from
staples such as Pad Thai (fried noodles with tofu, bean sprouts, eggs, and prawns) or dishes such as
swimming rama (chicken and spinach topped with spicy peanut sauce) or Thai fried rice.
The most expensive dish on the menu is only $8.95 (no kidding!), and the portions are big, so you won't be spending any more than what you would be at your local burger joint. But while it's not exactly your fancy sitdown restaurant, Thai Away Home fills a very important niche: it will satisfy you when you're hungry for food in a hurry, but are looking for something deliciously out of the ordinary.
