Vancouver's
Main Street area is undoubtedly the best place in the city for authentic Indian
cuisine, and Del-Hi Darbar is no exception. First impressions count, and
it's definitely a good sign when many of the other diners in the restaurant
share the same ethnicity as the kind of food that is being served. It's also a
nice touch when every table sports a beautiful freshly cut rose, and is
resplendent with spotless linen.
If you want spicy, they've got it, but
they also have a remarkably large menu that includes everything from mulligatawny
soup to lamb vindaloo. Their vegetable bhojan is a
traditional Indian vegetarian meal, served in thalt (steel
platter) that includes lentil soup, papadums, vegetables, daal, pullao
rice, raita, aloo paratha, and kheer (desert). Our table tried the vegetable
pakora (vegetables battered and deep fried), chicken makhni (boneless chicken pieces cooked in
a sauce made with butter, almonds and cashews), prawn masala
(prawns marinated and cooked with onions, tomatoes, mushrooms and dry
spices), dal maharani (black lentils and red beans, simmered with
spices overnight), as well as some excellent mango chutney.?
All the dishes were mouth-watering, and
left us clamoring for more. Del-Hi Darbar a great place to check
out if you're looking for some tasty Indian food in Vancouver!
