If
you have never tried Vietnamese noodle soup, you absolutely must! I kid you not:
one bowl is a complete meal, full of meats, noodles, and vegetables, accompanied
by a special broth of your choosing. It's the perfect food for one of those
damp, chilly days that we get occasionally in Vancouver, because all that hot
broth will warm you up and make you feel ready to brave the elements again. And
if you like, the hotness can be in both temperature and flavor: you can always
add some extra Chile sauce or just pick a soup that is labeled "hot"
on the menu.
As you can see from the picture at left, Pho
66's soup is a feast for the eyes as well as for the stomach. Depending on
how adventurous you are feeling, you can pick from many different kinds of soup,
some more "challenging" than others. By challenging I refer to the
complexity of the aromas and flavours which can range from an almost
Western-style mild beef broth to a very authentic soup labeled "Traditional
Vietnamese Soup" where the menu does not even attempt to describe all the
interesting and delicious ingredients.
Pho
66 also serves up other typical Vietnamese cuisine, such as spring rolls, noodle
and rice dishes, and salad rolls. I must say that salad rolls (pictured at
right) have to be my favorite item on the menu. They are served cold with a
semi-transparent rice wrapper stuffed with vermicelli noodles and shrimp. Dip
them in some hoisin sauce and you have the perfect appetizer or snack.
The conclusion: visit Pho 66 to try this
amazing style of food. They do a fine job of preparing such a unique and
tempting cuisine. For both price and quality, Pho 66 is one of the better
restaurants of this type in Vancouver. And their service is friendly too!
