VSO: Directly from the Press Release: I Musici de Montreal is one of Canada’s top chamber orchestras. The VSO is proud to present them, with their founding director, Yuli Turovsky, for the opening concert of the Bach & Beyond series in a perfect baroque concert: the music of Bach and Handel. I Musici de Montreal performs at The Chan Centre for Performing Arts on October 10th and 11th. Giffard: Directly from the Press Release: Giffard, makers of fine liqueurs and syrups, is pleased to announce that Shaun Layton of George Ultra Lounge has emerged triumphant at Giffard’s 2nd annual Iron Mixologist Challenge. Wendy McGuinness of Chambar Belgian Restaurant came in a close second place. David Wolowidnyk of WEST Restaurant and Trevor Kallies of the Granville Room were named runners-up.As a result of their achievement in the Vancouver competition, Shaun Layton & Wendy McGuinness will both be flown to France to represent Canada and compete in Giffard’s International Mixologists Competition in late May 2009. The Art Show is on for 4 weeks, ending on Friday, October 24th.
There will be new work by Tiko Kerr, Paul Paquette, Vern Simpson, Ron Dixon, Leslie Poole, Vicki English, Robert Genn, Sara Genn, Fred Peters, Paul Jorgensen, Elspeth Armstrong, Pamela Holl Hunt, Jude Copland, Tetiana Zakharova, Craig Yeats, Danuta Rogula and Jill Charuk, to name a few
New Artists are Wesley Clark and Stefan Horik.
The Display is open from 8 am to 6 pm weekdays.
I will be at the art show from 9 am to 1:30 pm daily - Monday to Friday.

Rising chef takes top honours in biggest ever Black Box Competition Vancouver, BC, September 26, 2008 Up and coming chef Anna Yeh of The Fairmont Vancouver Airport looks set for culinary success after finishing in first place at the 13th Annual Black Box Competition on September 23, 2008, hosted by The International Culinary School at The Art Institute of Vancouver. 24 emerging chefs took part in the biggest event in the competition’s history, which tests competitors’ culinary expertise and creative skills, and has consistently identified the cream of Vancouver’s rising culinary talent. Competitors were given just under two and a half hours to create an appetiser and an entrée, using the mystery items revealed in the Black Box; the key ingredients to be used this year were red snapper and pheasant. After two intense heats, guests from the finest of Vancouver’s hospitality scene witnessed the awarding of second place to Coleman Harrington of the Bluewater Café, one of ten International Culinary School alumni in this year’s competition, with third place going to Thomas Cruise of The Fairmont Vancouver Airport. |
