He performs Schumann’s delicious Piano Concerto in his Vancouver debut, while in the second half, Maestro Tovey explores the rich treasure trove of music that is A Hero’s Life by Richard Strauss. Bramwell Tovey’s The Inventor Saturday, Jun 9, 8pm Monday, Jun 11, 8pm Bramwell Tovey, conductor Tovey/Murrell The Inventor Maestro Bramwell Tovey’s recently-premiered spectacular opera The Inventor opened at the Calgary Opera in January 2011 to critical acclaim. John Murrell’s libretto tells the tragic story of Alexander (”Sandy”) Keith Jr., nephew of the famous brewmaster, with Tovey’s spectacular, dramatic score. The VSO presents the concert version of this new opera, featuring the original cast and, of course, Maestro Tovey conducting.
