Tradition and Innovation – Autumn Wine Dinners at CinCin

New Zealand’s Whitehaven Wine Company and Italy’s Dr. Antonio Moretti ‘Collezione’

Vancouver, B.C. Multi-course tasting menus will complement each evening’s progression of wines, and senior representatives of the wineries will speak to the history and terroir of their estates, as well as their winemaking methods.

Dr. Antonio Moretti ‘Collezione’ Dinner
Featuring the wineries of Tenuta Sette Ponti, Feudo Maccari and Orma

Time:           Reception at 6:00 p.m.
Special Guest:     Export Director, Stefano Maggini

Dr. Antonio Moretti has amassed a collection of some of the great wine properties of Italy. From the release of the first vintage of his first wine, 1998 Crognolo, to the more recent acquisitions of estates in Sicily (Feudo Maccari) and Bolgheri (Orma), Moretti’s pursuit of absolute excellence is reflected in expansive, sophisticated wines that are now as well-travelled as their proprietor.

Together with superstar oenologist Carlo Ferrini—“one of the most talented and effective in the industry,” as CinCin wine director Sarah McCauley said following her visit to Feudo Maccari—the Moretti brands have risen to critical acclaim on a global scale. “They’re innovative, yet classic,” McCauley adds, “and represent sound value.”

Join export director, Stefano Maggini, for an informed and collaborative evening of fine Italian wines—and inspired cookery from the forno of CinCin executive chef, Todd Howard.

Vancouver Symphony Orchestra New Recordings

Monday, September 26th, 2011

Directly from the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra Press Release:

Vancouver Symphony Orchestra Recording of Music by Jeffrey Ryan to Launch Naxos Canadian Classics Series

Vancouver, BC – The VSO is pleased to be a part of the launch of Naxos’ newest recording series: Naxos Canadian Classics – Classiques Canadiens, on September 23, 2011. This unique imprint on the Naxos label will showcase music by Canadian composers.

Naxos Canadian Classics is modeled on Naxos American Classics, the highly acclaimed series featuring music by American composers. It is the goal of Naxos Canadian Classics to release 6 to 8 new CDs per year including composers from across Canada and covering the major areas of classical music: orchestra, large ensemble, vocal, chamber, solo instrumental and wind band music.

The first release on Naxos Canadian Classics is “Fugitive Colours”, featuring the music of Jeffrey Ryan, with performances by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra conducted by Bramwell Tovey, with the Gryphon Trio as soloists.

Jeffrey Ryan was Composer-in-Residence for the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra for five years, and continues to have a close relationship with the orchestra. All three works on this CD are a result of that collaboration.

Fugitive Colours is the name given to Jeffrey Ryan’s Symphony No. 1. As the title suggests, the inspiration for this music is visual, from the properties of light, brilliantly transformed to sound through Ryan’s musical imagination. Equilateral was composed for orchestra and solo trio – specifically for the Gryphon Trio. The Linearity of Light was the concert opener on the Vancouver Symphony’s most recent tours to China, Korea, Macau and central Canada.

In launching this new series, Naxos founder Klaus Heymann said: “I am pleased to announce the launch of Naxos Canadian Classics. Naxos has been recording outstanding Canadian musicians for many years. With this series we can now pay attention to Canada’s fine composers as well.”

Composer Jeffrey Ryan said of this CD and series:  “This project is a thrill for me in so many ways. It is a record, literally, of my long and rewarding collaboration with Bramwell Tovey and the Vancouver Symphony. It is the first CD devoted exclusively to my orchestral music. If that weren’t enough, it inaugurates the new Naxos Canadian Classics series, a visionary undertaking which promises to show the world the depth and richness of the work of Canadian composers throughout our history.”

The next two releases on the Naxos Canadian Classics feature two Grammy-nominated ensembles. The Elora Festival Singers will present music by Ruth Watson Henderson, Derek Holman, Marjan Mozetich, Glenn Buhr, Peter Tiefenbach and Tim Corlis. Also, the New York-based Metropolis Ensemble, conducted by Andrew Cyr will present music by Edmonton-born composer Vivian Fung, with violinist Kristin Lee and pianist Conor Hanick as soloists.
