Directly from the BC Culinary Tourism Press Release:
Vancouver, BC – Announcing British Columbia’s tastiest conference! March 9th, 2009, Culinary Tourism Society BC (CTSBC) will host British Columbia’s second annual Culinary Tourism Industry Conference at the prestigious Sutton Place Hotel in Vancouver, BC. This conference is a must-attend for any tourism operators including restaurants, wineries, farms, tours, and suppliers who want to capitalize on local opportunities with the upcoming 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games.
This year’s conference, “Culinary Tourism in Today’s Market” will show how to make the most of BC’s bounty and capitalize on the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games. The conference program features engaging speakers and timely topics, like “Where to Source Local Ingredients & Make Them Pay for Themselves,” presented by a panel of speakers including Meeru Dhalwala of Vij’s and Lee Murphy of Vista D’oro Farms. Keynote speaker Barbara-Jo McIntosh leads us through the benefits of positioning BC culinary products and destinations for our Olympic Guests in her session, “Culinary Tourism – Why Now?”
CTSBC is pleased to welcome culinary tourism champion Suzanne Caskie, who implemented a provincial strategy to grow culinary tourism in Ontario and launched Canada’s first Culinary Tourism Management Program at George Brown College. Caskie has an unprecedented understanding of today’s culinary traveler and what it takes to grow culinary tourism on a provincial scale. She will reveal Ontario’s culinary tourism strategy and discuss how it relates to the current culinary scene in British Columbia.
The full-day experience includes local food samples and a BC inspired lunch prepared by Chef Bernard Cassavant of the Sonora Room at Burrowing Owl in Oliver, BC. To close the conference delegates will embark on one of four epicurean excursions on Vancouver Trolley’s Phantom Tours. Each trolley will boast a moveable feast with food and drinks that match the tour, whether it’s Granville Island, Little Italy, Chinatown or Restaurant Row. Insiders of the culinary tourism industry will expertly guide the tours through some of Vancouver’s diverse cultural neighborhoods to explore ethnic cuisine and culinary delights.
Cost for the conference is $275.00 per person for the full day conference package, which includes meals, wine tastings, a useful Culinary Tourism Toolkit, Phantom Trolley Culinary Experience, and an opportunity to network with some of the industry’s most successful leaders. Group rates are available and room rates at The Sutton Place Hotel start at $145.00, based on double occupancy.
