Inflammatory Bowel Diet
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is often used to describe ulcerative colitis and
Crohn's disease. In these conditions, the intestine becomes inflamed and bleeds
easily. Both are unpredictable, and people may experience abdominal pain, cramping,
fatigue and diarrhea.
During a flare-up, resting the bowel and following a low fibre, low fat diet can
help reduce discomfort. Between flare-ups, emphasizing a high fibre diet can help
maintain bowel regularity and improve the muscle tone of the intestinal walls.
