High Blood Pressure Diet
Blood pressure refers to the pressure exerted by the heart, as it pushes blood
through your arteries. The higher the blood pressure, the harder the heart is working.
The higher it is above normal, the greater the risk of heart failure, kidney
failure, coronary artery disease and stroke.
A healthy eating pattern for improving blood pressure emphasizes fruits and vegetables,
and limits sodium. Additionally, recommended amounts of protein from animal
based sources are less than Canada's food guide recommendations; therefore extra
protein from vegetarian sources such as nuts, seeds, beans and peas
should be included in the high blood pressure diet.
